India has so many different types of music festivals that you will surely find something that fits your interests. These festivals vary in scale and duration, but the sheer variety of options ensures you will never get bored of them! If you’re a music lover and want to experience the joy of live music, these festivals should go on your must-visit list. The options range from EDM, pop, metal, rock, jazz, reggae, electronic, techno, house, Bollywood and folk music. You’ll definitely be spoilt for choice!
By far one of the biggest festivals in India, NH7 Weekender is a multi-city extravaganza with an annual attendance of over 1 lakh attendees. NH7 Weekender happens between October to December every year, with the flagship event being hosted in Pune. Over the years, the fest has travelled to Noida, Bangalore, Shillong and Kolkata. It hosts established and upcoming Indian artistes, along with an enviable lineup of international artistes too. In 2019, the fest will be celebrating its 10th year, and will be hosted in Meghalaya and Pune. The Meghalaya edition is on Nov 1 - 2, 2019 and Pune on Nov 29 - Dec 1, 2019.
If you’re into EDM (electronic dance music), Sunburn is the place to be. Sunburn is Asia’s largest music festival. It used to be hosted in Goa from 2007 to 2015, but has shifted to Pune since 2016. In 2009, CNN ranked it one of the top 10 festivals in the world. Sunburn combines music, food, art and shopping and is now the 3rd largest dance festival in the world after Tomorrowland and Ultra. This year, Sunburn will be returning back to its roots – Vagator Beach in Goa. It will take place from the 27th to the 29th of December this year.
The Hornbill Music Festival is one of the largest in the country, and with good reason! It is a seven-day extravaganza that happens in Kohima, Nagaland every December. It is a music and cultural fest rolled in one, and it is a wonderful window into their native culture and musical talent. The Hornbill fest is an initiative by the Nagaland state government to showcase the diversity of the ethnic tribes of the state. It is also a great place for upcoming artistes to network, and you might be able to meet your favorite artistes there too! Have you ever been to the Hornbill festival? 4. Magnetic Fields
Magnetic Fields is a themed music festival that combines music, culture, and arts into its showcase of offerings. It is held in Rajasthan in the remote village of Alsisar. It’s a three-day festival in December and it actually takes place in a royal palace! Apart from the music, it’s also a beautiful scenic region and a wonderful experience for travel enthusiasts and music lovers alike. If you like both these things, this festival should hit the sweet spot for you. They host a variety of musical genres, ranging from techno, house, rock, indie, reggae, and so much more. You’ll also get the chance to meet many upcoming artistes and discover many new tunes.
5. Enchanted Valley Carnival
Enchanted Valley Carnival, popularly known as EVC, happens in Amby Valley, Lonavala. This fest also happens in December, with five stages of event spread out over 2 days. EVC hosts multi-genre music options, so there’s something for everyone here. Their lineup includes Bollywood, metal, jazz, electronic, rock and folk music. Interestingly, the Enchanted Valley Carnival includes adventure sports too, like ziplining, bungee jumping and many more. Plus, they have an amazing food spread called Culinarium, featuring a variety of stall that serve dishes ranging from street style to gourmet cuisine.
